ABOUT MADDY
I worked as a receptionist at a physio for a few years, and then last year started a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Sydney, thinking that I would eventually become a physio or EP. At some point through this study, I changed my mind and decided I wanted to work in high performance sport, helping athletes with movement patterns to improve performance and prevent injury.
Completing my PT certificates was something I’d been thinking about for years, but I always thought I’d just wait until I finished my degree. Having performance related career goals was one reason I decided to do the course, but more than that was knowing how much I had gained from trainers in the past, not only in strength and training, but also in confidence and my own self-worth. Being able to pass that onto more people was the driving force behind wanting to be a personal trainer.
As a trainer, the focus is on performance in training and helping people to reach goals that they never thought possible. I would love to be able to give people confidence in themselves and in the gym, so that they can live healthier and happier lives.
As a kid and especially through high school, I played heaps of different sports. After doing gymnastics for 9 years, I switched to team sports and tried soccer, netball, hockey, touch footy – you name it. In my late teens I started playing AFL and going to the gym, both of which I fell in love with straight away. I saw a few different personal and group trainers in those early years, all of whom taught me heaps and helped me to become confident in the gym.
